In the long haul, the prior generation Tundra was a far better
size...Instead Toyota created an oversize, inferior design that is not
a good compromise between a half ton truck and a 3/4 ton truck. Too
big, too inefficient, third rate at best. They have spent billions on
plants, tooling, advertising, rebates, promotions, etc, and the most
significant thing they did was drive Nissan out of the full size truck
business. They are missing their "low ball" announced sales targets by
30% (even before the gas crisis) and given the production capacity
they initially allotted to the Turdra, they are probably at less than
half of their actual sales targets. It is the biggest marketing
mistake in decades. The fuel cost crisis just made the magnitude of
the mistake even more obvious. I am sure the US Toyota execs who are
responsible for this turkey pray everyday that pick-up sales
increase....if not, they'll soon be polishing floor at the
headquarters.
