Here's what I did to change the oil on my 02 F250 2wd s/d.
1. Buy 20 qts of Mercon
2. Buy the trans filter - mine used the "deep pan" version. Buy both if
you don't know what pan you've got.
3. Drain the oil and drop the pan.
4. Replace the filter. Make sure you pull the filter seal out of the
transmission or the new filter won't fit right and you can ruin the tranny.
5. Reinstall the pan and drain plug.
6. Put 7 qts of mercon into the pan thru filler hole.
7. Disconnect the transmission cooler return line on the transmission.
Return line is one nearer the rear of tranny.
8. Connect 10 foot length of clear pvc hose to the line and clamp it tight.
I used 3/8" ID tubing.
9. Run the hose to a 5 gallon container and cable tie it into the opening.
10. Start the truck and let it idle. Move the shifter through all gears,
stop about 5 seconds on each. Keep doing this until you see air bubbles in
the pvc drain line. The oil will be pumped out in about 2-3 minutes so
don't panic - it comes out slowly enough to be controllable.
11. Stop the motor as soon as bubbles are seen.
12. Refill the tranny with 6 qts of mercon. (That's 13 qts so far)
13. Repeat steps 10-11.
14. Add 6 qts of mercon. (that's 19 qts so far)
15. Disconnect the pcv line and reconnect the oil cooler return line.
16. Check the fluid level and top off as needed.
Job Done! Takes about a 1/2 hour.
