Professional drivers increasingly see defensive Driving methods as necessary. There are many unskilled and reckless drivers on our roads today and drivers who drive defensively are less probable to be involved in an accident with one.
How do I drive defensively?
1. Expect aggression from other drivers, but stay away from reacting to that aggression.
2. Use your mirrors and be aware of all that is occurring around you.
3. Know the dimensions of your motorcar, so that you know exactly how far you can pull through, if needed.
4. Expect the unplanned. There can be a runaway horse galloping towards you just around that blind bend. There was a man killed in Ireland in March 2006 by running into two horses!
5. Stay away from loud music while you are driving. You require being aware of all that is occurring to your motorcar and to others on the road around you.
6. Make sure your motorcar is maintaining well, with tire pressures set correctly. If your motorcar is well maintained you will be able to adjust your speed more rapidly and more safely to traffic and other conditions on the road around you.
