Post subject: Tickets to Sebring 2004 what day should I go?
Archived from groups: rec>autos>sport>rally (more info?)

Hi All;

I would like to expose my sons and grand children to sport racing here in
Florida.

I live in Orlando and have never been to the 12 hr race or any of the other
events at Sebring for that mater. In fact, I remember when it was known as
the 24hrs of Sebring I thought.

I know it's a 3 or more day event. I have been to their website site but I
would like some insider information.

The grandsons ages are 4 and 11. Their dads (my sons) are 36 and 31.

I personally have always like the auto style and class of the Sebring cars
over the NASCAR types in Daytona. I wanted them to be able to get up close
spend a day and give them an over all grasp of road racing compared to oval
track type stuff.

Which day would you suggest to go?

Please bear in mind we all live in a tourist area here in Orlando and would
prefer not to be crammed in like sardines. But if that's what it takes then
so be it. I just thought that one of the none 12hr days might be even
better for my mission (getting them acquainted to Sebring racing).

I assume that the 12hr race day will be packed and harder to get up close to
the drivers and cars.

I have a budget and being that I am going to pay for everything I just
wanted experienced opinions to get the most bang for the buck and let them
enjoy the feel of a road race.

Any other tips would be appreciated

Thanks

2003 Sebring was $80 for all four days. $70 for just Saturday with a good
discount for students. The crowd is basically the same the last two days.
It's a pretty bawdy crowd, but if you can keep your grandkids focused on the
races...

Friday is pretty nice racing. Antique racing, SCCA GT and GTS stuff and the
Panoz school race. They are short races, about 45 minutes each. So you need
to pick your observation site for each race ahead of time because there
isn't much time to move around and still see the race. That's what is nice
about the 12 hour race, you have time to move around and not miss much.

Access to the drivers and teams is limited to random meetings or begging
through the chain link fence behind the pits. You can easily watch the
action in the pits, including the quite elaborate setup of Bentley.

All in all it was a great couple of days.

Thanks Paul, That helps allot. I didn't realize the crowd might not be G -
PG rated. That is definitely a consideration for the kids. Maybe that I
should hold off on this idea until they are more mature. Thanks for the
input
