Post subject: Temperature Gage

I have a BMW 318I, The temperature gage keeps shooting up to the red whenever i put the blowers on, after a while it will come back down & then shoot up again, or sometimes it wont move but there is no heat coming out just cold air, also the MPG indicator not working correctly keeps going over to the right all the time, i have changed the air filter recently but this hasnt helped, any suggestions????
