Post subject: TV Cable adjustment on 700 transmission
Archived from groups: alt>trucks>chevy (more info?)

Hi,

I have ben trying to adjust the TV Cable on this transmission according to
this site:

http://www.tciauto.com/Products/Instructions/instructions/gm_tv_cable_adjust.htm
It shows I press an adjustment tab and push the the slider backwards

I was looking at a diagram at this site on how to adjust with the cable
housing as it is an area that has been a bit of confusion on how to
"operate."

http://www.purplesagetradingpost.com/sumner/techinfo/700R4p1.html

Figure 15 on a copy of a page from a service manual shows how the assembly
should look like when doing the adjustment. It helped a lot, however it
mentions pressing a lock tab and pulling out the slider.

So here we are with 2 different explanations.

Anyway I press on this adjustment tab/lock tab.

Any advice on pressing the lock/adjust tab so I won't break anything? I
notice a dimple on it...is that really a hole which to stick a paper clip in
to get it to release?

Thanks so much.

GB

GB,
I just used my thumb. And I pushed BACK on the slider toward the firewall.
Then push the pedel to WOT.
That will get youy close. After that only adjust it one click at a time.
It's touchy.

JR

Thanks for the reponse JR.

I tried that very same thing. It seems the lock tab on top just does not
want to move. It seems like it solid piece rather than a button.

Should I spray some WD-40 on it?

Come to think of it..the piece I am looking at is on the top while the
diagrams seem to indicate the side. It is the only thing that resembles the
picture representing the tab.

GB, The tab is on the drivers side.
The adjuster itself is plastic, I don't think a lube will help much.
You might try to "palm" a stubby flat blade screwdriver against the tab to
help move it.
Be careful, if you break it you are screwed.
It may help you to get a good bright flashlight and crawl up there and take
a close look at what you have and need to do.
Regards,
JR
