When I got my 88 HB std, it didn't have a front sway bar for some reason. I
just found one on ebay for 10 bucks used! BUT, it's from a 4 door civic from
the same year. I don't know if it would fit my car, because I don't wanna
buy it to find out later that it doesn't fit. Any help deeply appreciated.

Are you sure you're not describing the upper strut bar? They never came
standard except in the SiRs.

Go to http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com. Their diagrams indicate that the
'88 3 door STD 5spd did not come with a front sway bar. However, the '88 3
door DX 5spd had one. The '88 4 door DX also has a sway bar but from their
diagrams uses a different part number. The 4 doors use a 19mm front sway
bar. It could be that the 3 door DX just used a smaller diameter. Or, it
could be that the body widths differ between the 3 door and the 4 door
models (which doesn't seem likely). It might be best to call or visit a
Honda dealer (or some other parts retailer) and inquire if the one from the
4 door will fit.
