Hello all,
I am a newbie whos retired. I am going to put a 1990 5.7/400tranny into a 1960 Rambler. I have taken the engine and tranny from the donor 1 ton van. The compression test resulted in 155-165psi. This van was owned by my v=company and was taken care of mechanically just rusted away. I have removed the intake, oil pan, exhaust and valve covers and the engine is on my engine stand waiting. I have cleaned it(many times). I have purchased an Edelbrock Performer intake, 600cfm manual choke carb(I had this setup on a street rod before and was happy with it). I am not a mechanic so I need HELP! Since I'm eliminati ng the computer and emissions stuff do I need air pump, what sensors, sending units etc can I get rid of? The engine in the Rambler weighs damn near as much as the 350 so suspension shouldnt be an issue. I'll not be changing brakes or steering. What about the distributor change to nonelectronic with or without vacuum advance? I am going to do this on my own so I am ready to get started! Thanking you all in advance!
