I just got back from my dealer and found the right rear wheel bearing is going. I heard the noise which was why I brought it in. Now its a 2000 and has only 59000 km on it. Isn't it abnormal for a wheel bearing to go that early? I've only had the car for 3 weeks by the way and I'm hoping the deale..
« Abnormal for most cars, yes. Abnormal for a 2000 Sonata, no. In their misguided wisdom, Hyundai did not put a dust cover on the part of the wheel hub assembly that faces toward the inside. This a.. »
« Thanks Hyundaitech. Nice they have the cover on the new part but I have 3 more to worry about. What are the chances I have to worry about the others going in the near future? »
« The other rear one (if it hasn't been replaced already) is reasonably likely to fail also. The front hubs are a different design entirely, so you shouldn't expect the problem with them. »

Hi folks. One of the rear wheel bearings on my girlfriend's '95 Mitsubishi Galant (disc brakes/ABS), is on its way out and having talked her out of a 300 mile round trip to Bristol, muggins here is now charged with replacing same (the wheel bearing, not the girlfriend - although...). Looking at..

Hello all, I have been struggling with my right rear wheel bearing. The inner bearing came out no problem with only a hammer and improvised drift. The outer bearing is not coming so easily. Speedy Jim's website makes it sound like it should come out with only a hammer and drift, but mine is not ..
« Perhaps not important, but the car in question is a '74 standard beetle w/ IRS. Harry »
« Thanks Speedy, you always earn your name. Once I took a fourth look at things I finally saw what I was doing wrong. I didn't realize the bearing cap could/needed to be removed...once that was out o.. »
« Maybe not real 'tight' but the outer race certainly needs to be snug in the bore. If it takes a light rap with a hammer to drive it home then it should be fine. If the outer race flops around in the.. »
« I can only imagine that the race has become cocked in the bore as they are usually not a tight fit. See if you can drift it back in till it seats solidly all the way around. Then drift (lightly) f.. »

At 43,000 mi my nissan altima started to make loud noise, seem to be coming from tire ,soon to find out that the rear wheel bearing is going bad . Do you have this problem?
« The wheel bearing should not fail at such an early mileage. It is pretty simple to replace since it is a sealed type. »

Hi, Is changing a rear wheel bearing a diy job or garage ? Mine is starting to grumble - 2.4 JTD 130 Best place to buy from ? Thanks Graham
« in article Graham2 writes I found it a generally easy job (marea weekend) Torque on the hub nut is very high, I would recommend a 3/4" drive socket, with big F.O. ratchet, which is what I used.. »
« in article Graham2 writes Oh yeah, get a new brake cylinder well you're shopping, IME you'll need to replace it. -- steve »
