Post subject: Another Radiator Fan

So yesterday I noticed a knocking sound when I turned off my car, and as it turns out the passenger side radiator fan is hitting its plastic case at the top. There is about and inch and a half at least of space from the back of the fan to the back of the shaft it sits on. To me that seems to be a large amount of space, does it just need to get pushed back?

Also since I noticed this yesterday it has stopped doing this, but if I spin it with my hands it is still connecting with the case. I ran my car with the hood open for about 10 minutes after having driven it to the store and back and the fans did not once click on (either one).

I have no idea what to do here, if its a fuse thing or some larger problem and why it is that the fan does not seem to fit properly. Thoughts?

There is a very quick and easy test I always run FIRST when there is any question about if the fans are working or not - which will give you a definite answer...open the hood, start the car, and just turn on the A/C - immediately when you turn it on BOTH fans should start. (Note that they don't stay on permanently - they will cycle on and off over time but they should DEFINITLY start right up when you first turn on the A/C and run for a bit.)
If they don't run you can disconnect the wires to the fan, use a pair of jumper wires and go directly to the battey from the 2 wires on the fan - if it still doesn't run the fan is bad - if it runs then the fan is good, and then you should check the fan relay switches, or the fuse, or look for a bad wire somewhere - or perhaps the connections are corroded.
That should give you a few things to check.

If the fans aren't working though whatever you do DON'T DRIVE THE CAR!! It will overheat for sure, and overheating a honda is one of the few ways you can kill one!!

As for the fan hitting the plastic - it's possible the bearing in it is bad and causing it to wobble - allowing it to hit the fan shroud - you may just need a new fan.

Hope this helps you out - let me know if you've got any questions.
