can Acura RDX carry mountain bikes?

I'm looking for new car and am looking at small SUVs like the Acura RDX. One
of my requirements is that the SUV must be able to hold 2 mountain bikes
standing upright inside (front wheel off is OK). Has anyone tried this with
the RDX? Is the cargo area tall enough for a medium sized adult mountain
bike (not a 29er)? Thanks.

I recently read in the new car review section of an auto site that one
customer's RDX's roof collapsed when her son climbed on top of the car
to attach the bike's to a rack. It was not covered under warranty and
she was quite upset!

Many factory roof racks have a maximum weight limit of ~100 lbs and
that's with the weight being distributed by the rack.

If you are quoting from the post, it appears the post was worded to
make things sound bad. "Son" could be an 18 year old man. He could have
climbed on top of the roof and put his knee or foot down with most of
his weight on it. If he was a smaller kid, he could have stood upright
on the roof. "Collapsed" could mean "dented".

On the other hand, after an exhausting ride, I drove into my garage
with my bike on the bike rack on top of my Mazda MX-6. I destroyed the
bike seat and bent one of the main bars of the bike rack, but my car
roof was undamaged.

measure the height of your bikes,then go measure an RDX,or check the Acura
website for cargo dimensions.

My "mountain" bike measured 3 ft height at the seat,with the front wheel
on,FWIW. Add 3 inches for the handlebars(with frontwheel on)

seems that a SUV should be able to handle that.
How do you plan to keep them upright?

Jim,

I know the OP was talking talking about carrying the bikes inside the
RDX.

I didn't want people to think there is something wrong with the RDX
because the roof was damaged when someone climbed on top of it.

register to browse the messages. There may also be other online forums I
am not aware of.

A roof collapsing and a roof getting dented are two different things. I
just don't believe the roof could have collapsed. Was this kid a SUMO
wannabe ? I'm pretty sure they don't design CUVs roofs for walking, running
and pole-vaulting but I can see the weight of two or three bikes plus a
porky kid and his buddy roof jumping thinking it is a Hummer resulting in a
large dent. So does a collapsed bridge, bridge ? Does a collapsed roof, roof
?
