ja'ou'are

That's how the natives pronounced the name of a sleek spotted cat
native to their Amazon region.
William Lyons, of Coventry, named a car after that cat.
Judging by the phonetic spelling, above, that the explorers brought
back (along with some cats), the Brits have it right as far as the
pronunciation goes.

Most of the Brits I know (and, I used to work in a Jag parts department)
pronounce it....jag 'YOU' er (rhymes with "sewer").

Yopu'e right. This merely shows hat it's a three sylable word, not
Jag' whar, as yanks say it.

Actually, it shows that pronunciation varies regionally.

If this bothers you, then you'd best keep away from Texas. What they
do to names and words here...

Town of Palestine is pronounced Palesteen. Mexia is Meh Hay ya, except
the hispanics say it Meh Hee ya.
