Post subject: Posting something for the newbies coming into working garage
Archived from groups: rec>autos>rod-n-custom (more info?)

Since the end of the tax year came thought I'de let you newbies know
that when you are working in a shop anything you have to buy for your
job you can deduct from your taxes such items as:
If you paid partially or completely for work boots/shoes
Any tools you bought which can be any tools or equipment like buying
your own code reader any type of power tools and hand tools(for the
job),safety glasses any special training that you paid for that is not
being reimbursed if it is for the job ,and other incidentals like
loctite ,anti-sieze ,oil for your airtools and different lubricants you
use on the job that you have to buy is also deductible.
Just keep the receipts and keep them organized it saves time and always
keep notes in case you went to some store and bought some stuff for at
home and at work and if the receipt is not itemized staple a piece of
small notebook paper to it and write down the cost of the item for work
and what the item was and the item number and where you bought it
,otherwise the receipt can be no good.
And one more thing to do is get a fire proof box and either keep it at
home , at work in your locker if you got one, or in your toolbox to keep
the receipts in ,if you buy stuff with your credit card from walmart
like brake cleaner because it was a good deal and groceries and you lose
the receipt ,your credit card statement may not have it itemized but
with the total, had a couple buddies that did that and they lost out on a
few bucks to deduct, so save those receipts and keep good records.
hope this helps ,good luck
