NHRA Points - the old system

Is it just me or is it all they talk about anymore, hardly much spoken about
the current race, only the new system?

I like the new system, but I also like the old system for different reasons.

I wonder why they can not have both?

In Australia our Football season has a similar points calculation and they
DO use both systems.

The team who actually win outright on points are given the title of "Minor
Premiers" while the team who actually win the playoffs are given the title
of "Premiers".

Why couldn't the NHRA have a similar deal where the team who wins on
straight points is awarded the title of "Points Champion" and the team who
wins with the final 4 shootout is given the title of "National Champion".

I am not sure what the logistics would be behind it, and perhaps it may just
complicate things too much. Who knows??
