Zathras,

What was the resolution to your leaking headlamp washers (13/11/2005)?
Mine have started doing the same.

Cheap but a bit of a pain on my diesel. There's a combined pipe
splitter and stop valve unit - if you go to an Alfa dealer, it's the
only thing that is referred to as a stop valve in the chain so you
shouldn't go wrong. IIRC, it was about 10-15UKP.

Fitting is the hassle because my turbo/intercooler installation makes
getting the front bumper off a complete nightmare due to a reversed
inaccessible bolt on the passenger side. However, the bumper doesn't
have to come off completely anyway - it may well be easier if it
doesn't!

The stop valve is attached to the inside middle lower front edge of
the spoiler. I just loosened off the screws and bolts and rotated the
front bumper enough to get my hand in and replace the thing.

The undertray and inner wheel arches have to be removed to give access
to all the screws and bolts holding the bumper. I had to run the car
up ramps to get the undertray off, drop it down, jack up each side
separately to take off the wheels and inner wheel arches, put the
wheels back on..then up the ramp then go through the bumper removal
procedure. If you don't have the diesel, bumper removal *may* be
easier but still don't take it completely off - slide if forward
enough to see and get your hand in. You'll need torx drivers and some
decent hand cleaner but it can be done on your own - just takes time.

If you take it to a dealer, you will be charged an arm and a leg for
labour, I suspect.

As an aside, the stop valve went on my main wipers too. The symptoms
were a weak spray pattern and I was CONSTANTLY poking the jet nozzles
with bent staples thinking they were clogged - even bought new ones (a
stock item at my dealer!). Fixed with a new stop valve! There's a lot
of pressure required to open both of these stop valves and I couldn't
blow the new ones open at all with mouth pressure!

HTH.

Given the amount of hassle it's going to be, I might see whether it's
covered by my extended warranty.

Now that's rather interesting - I've noticed the spray isn't reaching
as far as it was - I thought the nozzles just needed adjusting.

Thanks for the info - looks like I need a trip to my nearest service
agent.

I didn't think I'd be alone on that one! It drove me utterly
nuts..cleaning/replacing nozzles, checking pipe routing for kinks,
cleaning the whole system (as I thought I was just getting repeated
blockages from deterioration of the anti-freeze etc).

My pleasure..and good luck!
