I laid out the holes for the AC hoses on my Larks firewall the other night
based upon the installation instructions for the 1962 Larks. However the
placement of the lower hose looks like it will interfere with the cylinder
head or the exhaust manifold if someone ever decides to install a V8. The
lower AC hose is the vapor return and is at the same level and in line or
parallel with the lower heater hose, but 5 & 3/8 inches measured from the
side of the existing heater hose to the center of the vapor return hose
toward the engine. I have an OHV6 in the car and I will have to use a right
angle drill to access this inner hole. This is one of the reasons I am
thinking there is something wrong with the instructions. Any pictures of
existing installations or measurements will be most appreciated.

My grandad has a '62 Cruiser with 259 and factory AC, still has the big
square York unit on it. I can get some pics Saturday.

Matthew,
To repeat, the pictures I need are where the hoses go through the firewall.
Maybe you can check the distance between the lower heater hose to the lower
AC hose.
Thanks,
Paul

There IS a mistake in those instructions in that figures 4 and 5 are
swapped. But since your measurements seem to be right on, it sounds like
you've already figured that out.
Looking at a '63 it does appear you'll need a right angle, or at least a
very compact drill. Actually, a lot AC installers used a special hand
operated tool that cuts a round plug of metal out of the firewall. >> Stay informed about: Picture of V8 Larks with AC needed |

Paul,
Check out the pics from when Ray and I put AC on my Lark, it's got some
good pics of where the hoses go through the firewall.

I'm out of town, if you still need them I have a 63 Wagonaire V8 with
the engine out and front clip off, as well as a 63 Cruiser, I'll shoot
some pics on Wed when I get back.

Dwain,
I have the installation instructions for AC-3296 using kit AC-3297 for 6 cyl
models. What do you mean the figures are switched? Figure 4 shows the layout
of the holes in the firewall. Figure 3 is the layout for the holes in the
right front fender. Figure 5 is the hole layout and installation of the
condenser and reeiver.

Those plug cutters require the use of a guide hole for the bolt that pulls
the two pieces together to shear the hole. Hole is usually 3/8 inch.

Yes, those illustrations are correct. I was looking at instructions for
kits AC-3221 and 3222. Matt's Yahoo album shows heater and A/C hoses in
place. Surprisingly enough it actually looks like there's more room to get
a drill motor in there on a V8 car. The manifolds are in the way on a six. >> Stay informed about: Picture of V8 Larks with AC needed |
