Got in my '04 RX330 this morning and all pressure seemed to be gone from the brakes. They would work if you pushed on them very hard. Parking brake light was also on on the dash, but the parking brake was not engaged. I tried to engage and release it a couple of times but that didn't seem to help...
« When you say that all pressure seems to be gone from the brakes, do you mean that the pedal drops to the floor when depressed or do you mean that the pedal takes a lot of effort to depress? Did yo.. »
« It was really hard to depress and was very 'jerky' coming to a stop when the brakes did catch. By the time I made it to town, I could smell them. Nope, brake fluid as noted, is good and probably a t.. »

« There is usually a large spring near where the 2 rear cables split from the front cable. It pulls the front cable to help pull the pedal up. If the spring is good, replace the front cable. You shoul.. »
« Uh Huh...... You found the problem. I'm an idiot. Or maybe it was the snow storm I was working in...... When I installed the cable. I forgot to put the spring back on down there. I found it in my.. »

For the first time since I owned my '04 Taco I used the parking brake (I was always raised under the belief that it was an emergency brake and only to be used in emergencies, I have no idea what those emergencies would be, but I digress). After returning the brake handle to it's normal position..
« There are very few emergencies that will ghet better by giving that handle a healthy yank, and most will get much worse. That has not been an Emergency Brake for closing in on 3 decades. The handl.. »
« Most Parking brakes are self adjusting, though it seems to be an oxymoron sometimes. Basically you can give it a try and if it works, great, but if it don't, no big deal. To "Self Adjust" the parki.. »

« Checked the brake fluid level? -- Bill Putney (To reply by e-mail, replace the last letter of the alphabet in my address with the letter 'x') »
« i just had my brake line replaced..they put fluid in it and i had put fluid in it before i took it in soo ill check tomorrow morning »
« FYI: That "parking" brake light could be signifying a major problem with your brakes. If the fluid in the reservoir is too low, if there is no brake pad material left, if there is air in the hydr.. »
