Hi everybody,

I need recommendations for a VW mechanic in the Omaha area, preferably in
the Southwest part of town, or even out towards Springfield. I'm looking for
the same qualities we all look for in mechanics: competent, fair, and
reasonably priced.

Have any of you Omaha folks used German Auto Specialists? They've been given
two rave reviews on the car talk site, but they were both written by the
same reviewer.

Thanks,

Jason

My thoughts:
Buy the tranny from junkyard on vehicle with reasonably low miles. Most any
mechanic can install it. Be sure they change the oil in the tranny.
Replace all nylon related shifter stuff at the same time.
Replace the throwout bearing while the tranny is being swapped.
If original, replace the clutch cable.
