Post subject: An Oil Leak

http://Hyundai-SantaFe.autoboardz.com/Warranty-issue-99-Sonata-ftopict190796.html (Warranty issue on 99 Sonata)
I own 99 Sonata, which has developed an oil leak around the valve cover gasket nearest the firewall. The dealer is says the repair is under warranty except a "surge gasket". It is my understanding the surge gasket would not even have to be replaced if it was not for the failure of a covered part? ..
« What is a "surge gasket"? Do you mean a valve cover gasket? That would not be covered, it's a wearable item. We need a little more info, a valve cover leak is not a serious repair, is there more .. »
« Perhpas the "surge gasket" is an upgraded third party valve cover gasket. I installed such ab "improved gasket" on my Dodge truck when I could not cure the leak under the valve cover with the stoc.. »
« I think I woould disagree. The Hyundai has a 5 year 60,000m bumper to Bumper warranty and you are in the 5years. As far as a gasket being a "wearable" item, ask them to show what to wears against? I.. »
« Here is some more details: the car was not purchased until November 1999, so I am certain it still is under warranty. The fact is I have already gotten the work done. And everything was covered exce.. »

http://Hyundai-SantaFe.autoboardz.com/Oil-Leak-ftopict195404.html (Question Regarding Oil Leak)
Hi all, After quite awhile without any issues, my truck has an oil leak: '95 5.7, manual trans, 168K miles. The leak is on the driver's side, and there's oil all over the transmission, oil filter, filter housing, and floor pans, and, the leak is leaving a small puddle 4-5 inches in diameter on t..
« OK, here's the fix... Advance Auto P/N ES72671, and 15 minutes of time... Couldn't have been any easier! The gasket and O ring were destroyed... Used a 3M prep pad on the gasket surface to clean.. »
« I hope what ever you used the 3M prep pad on was not a part of the engine, ie the block. Those things are loaded with a very fine to some what coarse aluminum oxide. Its not the scotch pad that does.. »
« Whitelightning - Oooops! I guess I should've been more specific... It was actually a sanding pad (I call 'em prep pads, but I know, there's a difference), and I just lightly cleaned the gasket gunk.. »
« Rick, Glad to hear you got it fixed, always nice to see what the outcome is, sounds like you had the exact same leak I did then... what was odd with mine(big block) is i only needed the o-ring, the .. »

I'm trying to isolate an oil leak on my 1990 740, so I decided to wash the engine. Like an idiot, I used pretty high pressure from my garden hose. The oil leak is somewhere up front, more toward the passenger side, so I didn't get much water near the distributor, but I did hose most of the rest ..
« Let it sit for a day with the hood up. »
« Thanks -- I do hope that simply drying out will fix it. I plan to check the fuses and all the connectors/wires to the starter and starter solenoid when I get home from work today. Is there a "main.. »
« I did the same thing on my 1985 245 wagon. For me I wet the distributor and had to open it and dry it. My 1987 740 distributor is behind the engine, so yours might not have gotten wet. Check the plu.. »
« If not then look for loosened connections starting from the battery and working forward. »

http://Hyundai-SantaFe.autoboardz.com/Neon-CAM-seal-leak-ftopict226242.html (Neon CAM seal leak.)
My 97 Highline SOHC is in the shop for an oil leak. Diagnosed as CAM seal. Garage tells me that a bad PVC valve can cause pressure to build up and push this seal out. Is garage giving me the gears?
« Hi I have a 96 Neon and have heard of problems in this area before; sometimes a bad head gasket leak was mixed up with cam seal leak. PVC valve is not expensive to replace or buy ; I have done this .. »
« Sounds like they want to sell you a PCV valve, not gears. Smile PCV stands for 'positive crankcase ventilation' -- they are part of a system that removes potentially explosive fumes from the crankca.. »
« Yeah, kinda, sorta, but your causes and effects are crossed up. I'm not sure where you got the notion that the PCV system was in place to avert hazards created by "potentially explosive fumes in the.. »
« I plead ignorance for good cause: 'twas the official teaching of the engine rebuilding course I took last fall. Sorry, I don't remember the textbook name, only that it had a pic of a Viper on the.. »

Hi, I have '93 Pathfinder with an oil leak from the right side valve cover. It's very obvious that this is where the oil is leaking (onto the exhaust manifold). Here's my question... I'm reasonable handy when it comes to car repairs (I can do tune ups, etc.) Is it a difficult job to replace the va..
