http://Toyota.autoboardz.com/Oil-Drain-Plug-Location-1996-Trooper-ftopict202134.html (Oil Drain Plug Location - 1996 Trooper)
I bought a '96 Trooper over the summer and have had the dealer doing the oil changes. Now I'd like to give it a whirl myself and am asking if someone can verify where the drain plug is - so I'm draining the correct fluid. Description or pic would be great! One of the reasons I'd like to do it myse..
« Climb under and take a look...should be pretty obvious...look for the rounded hanging part in the middle and you'll see the plug to the left or right side of it. I can't remember 100% exactly what .. »
« I changed the oil in our 94 today... Climb under and you'll see a low-hanging rounded-off box unit...about 4-5 inches front to back, and 8-10 side to side. The oil plug is the big one to the left .. »
« Our 94 Trooper is flipping out...check trans light coming on, etc...recalled that being caused by a faulty alternator. Did some digging in the archives, sure enough it is. Since then I've noticed .. »
« Thanks Wesley. I peeked under and I see it. Thanks for the tip on the oil filter skid plate. I'm going to do the oil changes from here on out. I'd like to use something other than the standard dino .. »

On the Kia You must use a End type filter wrench on a Rachet extention , It is an 06 4 cylinder 2.4 litre. I have a wrench thats very close but no cigar!
« My filter wrench is the end type and also doesn't quite fit the filter. It slips so I took a piece of rubber tubing and laid it across the wrench and then pressed it against the filter. Off it c.. »
« You know, the first time I replace a filter, I need a wrench. Whether it is a new car, or one put on by a dealership, a fast lube place or whatever, they are all on VERY tight. But after that, I .. »
« I also tighten mine only by hand (2/3 to 1 turn as specified by the particular filter), but after 5,000 miles I still usually need a wrench to remove them. The gasket seems to attach to the engin.. »
« Also, I change my oil with the engine hot and I can't stand my hand on the filter due to the heat. It is hard enough removing the drain plug when hot! Matt »

Hi Guys Do any of you have any tricks to stop an oil drain plug from leaking? One of the survace guys overtightened it and damaged the thread and now I can't stop it leaking. I've replaced the plug & ran a tap through to clean out the thread & now its leaking worse! I use the subaru crush washer..
« Dickhead. With just the slightest bit of care, it's bulletproof. I'm guessing you'll seek compensation for the fix. These people need to be taught a lesson. You should fix it right. You should b.. »
« My suggestion would be take it back to the morons that stripped the drainplug threads and have them eat it, and if you can't or don't want to do that then buy an oil pan from Subaru OEM.It comes wit.. »
« Is your vehicle new? Sometimes the original gasket is stuck on with black paint and stacking a new one on top will yield leaks. They probably have to repair a leaking pan once a month. Helicoil or .. »

As the subject asks: is the oil drain plug for a 2002 Nissan Sentra GXE (QG18DE engine) a "normal" thread plug (where a counter-clockwise turn will loosen it as most bolts work) or a left-handed thread plug (where it must actually be turned clockwise to loosen it)? I'm assuming that it's a normal ..
« A LT thread on a sump plug would be diabolical. Not even the French would try such a thing. Using a truly hexagonal socket (with only 6 flats instead of the usual 12) will ensure you don't round of.. »

« I can't imagine a left hand thread drain plug. Having heard horror stories about the old Peugeots though, I wouldn't put it past the French. The old joke around the garage was that when the rest o.. »

I have owned many Fords over the years. None has had how to change the oil (like where the oil drain plug is) in the owners manual. You would think that would be basic. Fred
« Because they want you to bring it back to the dealer for everything. »
« I have owned many Fords over the years. The owners manuals never described how to change the oil (like where the oil drain plug is). You would think that would be basic. _________________________.. »
« My guess is that the people who write the Ford manuals assume if you aren't smart enough to figure out where the drain plug is located, you shouldn't be trying to change the oil. My 1972 Pinto cam.. »
« Ed gets the gold star..... there's only so much information that they can put in to an owners manual... and any owners manual I have ever seen only ever covers roadside emergencies..... "Next we'l.. »
