The latest rumor floating around the sportsmen ranks is
that it will be announced at or shortly after Indy that the NHRA
will be sold to Bruton Smith. The rumor has the announcement
coinciding with the opening of his 4 lane ZMax track at Charlotte.
Evidence:
1. Smith buying up alot of oval tracks when NASCAR is
decreasing in popularity and NHRA is increasing. Since Bruton
can't get any more control of NASCAR, he can get TOTAL
control of NHRA.
2. Why build a 4 lane track when current NHRA officials say
they don't endorse it unless he plans to change that.
3. Bruton and son are down playing their interest in NHRA
which they have never done before.
It is inevitable that the NHRA is gonna be sold and probably
to Smith. Hopefully it will be run once again with the racers
and fans in mind, not just in what is in the best interest of
a few who don't share our love of a great sport.
