Hello, one more (minor) issue~

I have the most obnoxious squeak coming from my brake pedal on my '04 Accent
Automatic (U.S. version). It's not coming from the brakes themselves, as
near as I can tell. It seems to be coming directly from under the brake
pedal but not in the interior side of the mechanism. It squeaks on the
application AND the release of the brake, during stop-start traffic and at
greater speeds.

I tell ya, during rush-hour traffic I get pretty annoyed with it, as I am
sure most of nearby drivers are as well. It isn't a metal-on-metal grinding
kind of squeal, but more like a rusty gate at a farmhouse or something...

Pointers, anyone?

I appreciate any help given and this group as a whole. I've read some great
stuff here!

Dirk
Austin TX

p.s. I have a tire recommendation if your looking for budget sporty tires:
Sumitomo HTR200
I am extremely happy with my 175/70r 13 on stock steel wheels.

I've seen two things causing a squeak on brake application and release even
when sitting still:

1. brake pedal mechanism squeaking -- cured by lubrication of mechanism

2. rear brakes out of adjustment/dust in drum -- cured by adjusting rear
brakes and applying disc brake lube or anti-seize to the points where the
shoes contact the backing plates.

Why not have someone listen while you apply and release the pedal in the
driveway? You should be able to pinpoint the sound and give that point a
little lube.

Thanks, hyundaitech - hopefully the dealer will try one or both methods.

Lubing backing plates was needed, just as predicted!

Dirk

p.s. they did charge me $53.99 for this. No charge for the motor mount
adjust, $63.78 labor for battery install (my stupidity for not doing it
myself), $86.17 for an "Interstate" battery - My local battery place did not
have an exact replacement and wanted $70 for something similar but mentioned
their application chart stated "difficult installation". I figure I could've
saved the battery install price but otherwise I got off lucky. I greatly
appreciate everyone's assistance...
