Post subject: Loss of Power Steering During Torrential Rain

I am a real car moron, so I hope you will be able to answer a question for me. I was driving my 2003 Santa Fe home from work yesterday in a TORRENTIAL downpour. I was going nice and slow so I wouldn't plow through any big puddles. Going around a curve in the road I temporarily (a couple seconds) lost my power steering and the battery and brake warning lights went on (although the brakes were fine). This happened two or three times. I stopped at a red light and the car died. It re-started easily, but it was difficult to accelerate away from the intersection. When I got home, I left the car running in the garage (yes...with the door open) and the hood up in order to let anything that might have gotten wet dry out. Everything seems to be working okay today. So my question is...how nervous should I be?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I have had this problem as well. Only larger puddles do it, and it seems to affect the power steering and in my case the brakes lose power too. Keep driving and power returns, but leads to the secondary problem...
during the same time period I have been rewarded with difficulty starting it up, cold or hot makes no difference. Get in, nothing turned on (AC, Wipers, radio etc) turn the key and get a weak rrr. try a couple times, each one a weak rrr. turn the key and hold it over and ( if you're lucky) you get a delayed start, not like the usual quick twist of the key and vroom. It does NOT seem like a bad battery- wouldn't that be consistent and constant, not intermittent?
Any suggestions other than take it to notoriously tedious and expensive dealership? Some connector to check somewhere?
