That too bad. To me, a big part of the experience is the knowledge that
comes from doing the work myself. I'm such a mother hen when it comes to by
Ghia that the closest I ever come to letting someone else work on it is when
I ask for advice here or on the Samba. If I don't have time to work on it,
it waits until I do.

Nobody but nobody in my area will work on an ACVW, and I don't blame
them. That's fine by me.

Doing my own wrenching for forty years has taught me a couple things.
First, I work so slowly that I'd friggin starve if I tried to do it for
a living and second, I'm not all that damned good at it. Bob Hoover
taught me that. I only wish I had known of Mr. Hoover thirty years ago
when all I had was Muir's book.

>If I don't have time to work on it, it waits until I do.

So when it's down do you walk, bicycle, bike? Or do you have a real car
as well as the Ghia?

When I first started driving it 30 years ago, it *was* my only mode of
transport. When it broke down I switched to LPCs or the thumb. Now that I'm
older and (somewhat) wiser, I never dub it without a tool bag and an extra
fan belt and throttle cable. And yes I do own two other "real" cars
<grinning> that I drive when gremlins strike or the weather turns bad.

*LPCs = Leather Personnel Carriers = boots

If you can't do your own work, you should probably drive something else.

It's good that you do that. I work, come home, eat dinner and work some
more, so I have little time to work on my car. I have done a few things
like installed a stereo, repaired a leaking gas hose and fixed that god
awful vent setup in the superbeetle. However, as far as, for example,
doing brakes I am out of my league and don't have the space anyway.

We all have knowledge in certain areas that we enjoy applying. It all
depends where your priorities are. My work commute is 1.5 miles and I
work in the same place as my wife so we drive in together and sometimes
I walk home. The VW for me is just to do those things I need to do when
the wife has the other car. I certainly don't depend on it, but I like
it a lot. There is nothing like pulling into a parking lot full of
Mercedes and BMW's and the only car that people look at is my bug Smile

I'm going to write this prick off as a head case off his meds and add
him to my twit filter. I suggest the rest of you do the same. If we
all stop talking to him, maybe he'll go away.

Crybaby. You got pwnd because you couldn't act like a civilized human
being. If you weren't being such a dick, I would have just dropped the
subject. Sorry I hurt your feelings, I really thought you were an adult

no one had been pwnd by anyone... all i see, realistically, is you are
shooting off at folks that don't necessarily agree with your point of
view... but that's normal, if you don't agree with me you are wrong...<G>

which would I choose? depends I guess.... I have a bug and ghia that sit
most of the time... same with my motorcycle... I did just buy a 96 Mazda
that will sit most of the time too... but it better suits my occasional
needs( the ability to pick up both of my kids, when the wife can't get one
of them) than the bug or the ghia... so for what you describe, I'd take the
vw anyday, that is what I use mine for... occasional pleasure driving..

Thanks for taking my ribbing in good humor. My eye-opening experience
with ACVWs was with the original VW Doc in Chicago, Charles Harrison. He
bought a VW mini-bus quite far from home. A friend drove us out to pick
it up and drive it home. Charles brought a spare engine. Sure enough, a
hundred miles from Chicago the engine dumped. He dropped the engine and
replaced it right at the roadside. Damn, was I one impressed young puppy!

If you ordered those parts from AJ Simms, that would explain the long

I think it's a supplier problem and many dealers must be waiting. I
ordered from aircooled john.
