You may have fixed it by now but there's another solution to your "timing
out to buggery", suggested by a friend who did the following..
The pickup sensor in his distributor is slotted into the disrtributor side
skirt. To change the timing, the slot needs to be widened and the sensor
moved to a new position. If the spark is too far advanced, move it in the
same direction as distributor rotation. Vice-versa if the timing is
retarded. Use a timing light to find the correct, permanent position and
fix it in place with ingenuity :O)
Hope this may save much frustration and avoid needing to remove the dizzy
body.
