I own a 1998 Honda Civic EX Sedan. It has just over 182,000 miles. I bought it new (almost). It had 1,867 miles when I got it. I've had problems with electronic stuff lately. First, I was driving into a parking lot to park. Before I could turn the car off, the car just died, along with wiping..

« If not wiring, then the battery is intermittent. I've seen a lot of this in the last 25 years - dunno why never before that. When it happens and you need to get going again a whack on each post wi.. »
« This cable...Are you referring to the cable called the "sub ground cable" that extends near the oil dipstick handle? »

How long (in terms of mileage) does an alternator last? I have a 1998 Honda Civic EX sedan.
« 100-150k, depending on use. on some makes , you can replace brushes as a cheapo life extension. on others , you can't and your only option is replacement. unless you're into recreational alter.. »
« maybe next time your car tries to tell you something you should listen to it, putting new bearings in the alternator is fairly easy and costs less than a whole new alternator. »
« Here is my experience with Honda alternators: '74 Civic 70K sold with original alternator still operational. '80 Accord 85K sold with original alternator still operational. '86 Integra 115K sold wit.. »

I have a 1998 Honda Civic EX Sedan. Just two days ago, at about 184,000 miles, I had a new radiator and hoses put on (leaking problems). Even though the a/c condenser is still in working order, the fins are looking shady. Should I wait until it fails, or keep it while the going is good?
« Please define shady. If they are bent, there are tools that can be purchased that will straighten them enough for good air flow. If the condenser is dirty/plugged, use some cleaner such as simple gr.. »
« I'd just keep running it. If it still seems to cool ok, it's good nuff for gov work. The definitive way to test would be to check the head pressure. "high side". Most would need to go to a shop to d.. »

I own a 1998 Honda Civic EX Sedan with about 192,700 miles. I've had the car for 9 years 7 months. Recently, I have experience problems with my air conditioning. I turned it on to level 1, level 2, level 3, etc. and I got nothing. I feel no air, no heat coming out. I don't hear a fan, anything..
« It sounds like a bad switch. It should be easy to diagnose and fix. Even if the compressor is not working properly, you should get air blowing out. Jeff »
« What do you mean by "bad switch"? -- Message posted using More information at »
« There is a switch that controls the fan, and another switch that determines which position the system is in: A/C, Defog, Heat, etc. Either of this could be bad. Also, the fan motor itself could be .. »

I own a 1998 Honda Civic EX Sedan. It has 194,000 miles. When I turn on the heater, to level 1, level 2, whatever, that blower doesn't turn on. I inquired about this before. I went to the dealer and explained that it may be a simple problem like a bad blower resistor, a $20 part. Worst case s..
