Does anybody know why the IHRA Ford Pro Stock Hemi looks like a Hemi and the
NHRA Pro Stock Mopar Hemi looks like the old Chevy 348/409 head with a large
valve cover?

cause Mopar paid for it and decided to call it a Hemi to go along with the
marketing of their hemi in the pickup trucks and now cars...

the PS hemi is not a real hemi...but they are paying for it and they can
call it what they want too... maybe the should call it a Slant 6...

I found it on Jon Kaase Racing Engines. It's an 815 c.i. Ford Hemi for IHRA.

Hi gang

I have wondered what % of people who hear the advertisements really know
what the word "hemi" is referring to? or the word "turbo?" or "V-6" or
"V-8."

I was shopping for a 4.0 liter inline-6 jeep on ebay awhile back and was
stunned at how many owners listed their jeep as having a 4.0 "V-6."
obviously THEY didn't know what it meant.

I bought a turbocharged Chrysler New Yorker several years ago and the
guy who sold it to me lifted the hood, pointed to the valve cover where
the word "turbo" was die-cast in, and said "Yup, there's the turbo right
there." obviously HE didn't know what it meant.

my guess is that many (most?) people don't have a great desire to know.

if you've ever served wine in a restaurant, the same thing happens;
people ask about the vintage and the region and the bouquet and all
those kind of questions but most of them really don't know. I sell
relatively expensive residential wine cellars in my current job and even
though many people find it worthwhile to by a $1500/up wine cellar, it
is absolutely stunning how many of them proceed to ask what temperature
they should keep their wine at. they just wnt to LOOK like they know
about wine, they don't really want to KNOW.

so if people feel cool because they own a hemi, so be it. I think it's
sort of a phenomena like going to see the movie "Meet The Fokkers." It
wasn't that the movie was so good, people just liked saying the word.
Saying the word hemi must make people feel like they are on the inside
loop of engine design. Dodge is just taking advantage of that by calling
their pro stock motor a hemi. whether it really is or isn't a hemi is
beside the point. professional sports is about show business and PS is a
professional sport.

It certainly doesn't come close to the show business that resides in pro
stock motorcycle and the fake war between the V-2 and the Suzuki.

It comes down to do you want a real Hemi or win. One of the problems
with the Hemi design is getting the high CR without a huge dome on the
piston. The huge dome causes two problems, heavier pistons (slower
Revving), and the dome gets in the way of the flame movement (Less HP).
