real random sometimes it does not happening for a week and sometimes twice a
day. sometimes it will start right back up and sometimes i have to give it a

Had the same problem with my 86 944 NA. Ended up being as simple as the
coil wire. The wire has a nut on it where it fastens to the clip for the
plug. If you open up the rubber boot on it you can see it. It had
deteriorated. Replaced all the wires on the car and no more problem. Had
been through a number of garages and no one found it. Plagued me for a
couple of years. Good Luck

You need to check all electrical connections. Probably plug going into
computer?

I had this happen due to a DME relay - that's another thing to check -
the solder connections to the internal circuit board fatigue and you
get intermittant connections.

but I'd wiggle/unplug every electrical connection in the engine (and
plug it back) as a first step - if you see something wrong, fix it

Also check to see that there is a ground strap from the engine to
frame. Clean up the ground connection from battery to ground as well.

I had a similar problem that existed for a couple of months--- found that it
was the fuel pressure regulator. Try going to Clarks garage and following
their troubleshooting directions. Good luck.

I bet a million bucks it's the computer main brain...resolder the larger
terminals in the circuit board and your problems will disappear.

DME relay will cause this too - every one I've looked at has had bad
solder connections to the body of one or both of the relays inside -
quick fix, just clean and resolder
