Glow Plug Light

I have a c250 TD and whilst driving last week the glow plug heater light on the dashboard came on. Does anyone know what this indicates?

When I try to start my 1983 300 TDT, the glow plug timer light does not illuminate. When I unplug the glow plug wires from the timer, it lights. I've tried to check the glow plugs, and all of them seem to register 0 ohms. I think they should be about 200 ohms, but don't understand how the would..
« They should around 0.6 ohm... set your ohmmeter to the lowest one... like 2 ohm or something like that... unless you have an automatic one. Check your big fuse for the glow plugs. »

Just bought a 2003 406 2.0 hdi (90). The glow plug warning light doesnt come on as the hand book says. Spoke to another owner today and he says hes doesnt either, they dont come on on this model. Is this a problem or 'normal'. Thanks Richard
« As far as I know the HDi doesn't need a glow plug light as starting is 'instant', no waiting. »

It is very dim. But stays on. Any one know what that means , and how to fix it? TIA
