Mitsubishi Galant air and radio wouldn't come on

Why would the air and radio not work at times when the car has been started?

Ignition switch is not fully returning to 'ON' or 'RUN' position after
starting so accessories are inop. Have the switch replaced. Common problem
on '04 Galants
