Ok I'm bordering on trolling here but after the response to my rear spoiler
comment!

Except in the dark, what does the group think about the use of the front fog
lights?

Never, unless it's foggy. (and that means visibility <100m) Any other time
and they ar emore of 'idiot warning' lights.

Of any benefit only in dense fog. Otherwise as cool as having your
wipers on full on a cloudless sunny day...

That would be the models on which indicators were optional extras?

except on the 156 GTA where they are far enough apart to like quite cool...
as an alternative to headlights in a sort of twilight situation. A
gentle(ish) "get out of my way" notice I think...

I have always found fog ligths to be useless in fog - put your fog and full
beam on and the fog seem to get denser...

I have no other use for fog lights unless I am on a dark unlit country lane
where I want to light up the hedgerows and grass verges to see where they
are...

I used to think they were cool when I was a early 90's CHAV in my Escort RS
Turbo and I had a row of 4 rally fogs in-between my headlights - I was a
twat back in them days !!!

1) You shouldn't have full beam on in fog
2) Unless the rules have changed, fog lights won't come on if your full
beams are on

The only use for my 156 fogs is to show others you've got lights in
the spoiler.

I once parked the car 10 feet from a wall in the dark and couldn't
tell if they were on or off! As for them as *fog* lights..Ha Ha. I
stay near Glasgow Airport (so we get proper fog!) and these lights are
completely and utterly useless as lights to allow the driver to see
better. I use dips.

I conclude that they are not actually *fog* lights..just
embellishments for the spec sheets or to try and tempt BMW drivers
that Alfas are possible alternatives. Candles would be better than
these lights on the 156 IMO.

Use sidelights or dipped beam in fog - the main lights simply get
reflected back at you.

I've found that foglights make very little difference.

Strangely but truly, this pic has not seen the light of day since the
discussion of last year's Alfa Day. Where it was taken so that those
who could not attend would be able to see the topic of loathing.
Those who attended the Day just knew that others would never really
be able to believe just how bad the car looked.

Why it has risen from the vaults?
Probably because each poster has thought that it
was a picture that did say more than a thousand words.

Not sure about *supposed to* but some cars do switch off the fogs on
full beam (an Astra I had did). As has been pointed out the 156 leaves
them on.

147 turns them off on full beam headlamps.
They're on the outside of the headlamps though, kinda where you'd
expect the indicators to be. The indicators are down below, kinda
where you'd expect the fog lamps to be...
Probably means though, if you turn on the fog lamps and then switch
full beam on and off you'd get an alternating light effect to impersonate
the front lights of police cars when they do their alternate flashy thing...
(but not much like that.)

My brother's Peugot (excuse my language) 106 has what look like front
fog lamps down below. But they come on with the full beam headlamps.
And it has no front foglamp switch. Odd. French.
