I own 2001 X5 and live in Toronto, Canada.
Every winter I have big problem with doors freezing (including rear gate).
I tried all known
remedies; W40,lock deicers. But still few hours outdoor and can not get
in.
(But my GM truck never freezes, no matter how cold - why ?)

Your GM truck also doesn't have triple door seals that make it quieter
inside.
Unfortunately because the outermost seal also keeps water out of the door
jamb area (unlike single seal affairs that allow water to drain down to the
bottom and off the rocker panel) it tends to freeze up.

Sounds like you go from warm to cold and get lots of snowmelt. You might
try applying de-icer directly to the outer rubber seal. Personally, I've
never
had trouble getting into my 330xi in conditions that are certainly as severe
as what you have; but I don't have a lift-gate either.

Try wiping the seals using a clear silicone spray on a lint free cloth.
Works for me.
