Hello,

We've just got our 3rd FOCUS - an 8 month old 2.0 TDCI manual Titanium UK
model from Ford Direct. Our previous models have been Zetecs.

Other than the standard things with the Titanium it also has the dual temp
aircon thing where you set individual temperature requirements for the
passenger area and the driver area.

The 'default' display of mileage and temp shows the total odo with MLS
beneath it so it's in miles. The outside temp also shown on this display is
shown in degrees F. The indivdual settings (driver and passenger side) on
the dual aircon display were also showing in degrees F. So I went in to the
'menu' system that I'm very familiar with and changed the UNITS to metric
from IMPERIAL and exited as normal.

The aircon display is now showing in C as is the outdoor temp.

So, what's my problem?? With the 'computer' set to METRIC my readings for
fuel consumption that I scroll through are now shown in KMs/Litre and not
MPG. To view them in MPG I have to change back to IMPERIAL and then have
aircon and outdoor temp in F and not C. OK, so it makes sense (and the odo
stays in miles (with the MLS beneath it), but I'm sure that on the other
Focii we've had the METRIC selection did not affect the temp display - just
the trip computer/fuel consumption figs. The only difference between the
car we have now and the previous ones is that this one has the dual aircon
thingy.

Any thoughts anybody??? (Preferred solution is temp shown in C (METRIC) and
fuel consumption/average speed etc shown in miles/gallons (IMPERIAL).

See ya,

Phil

You're lucky - my 2-yo TDCI Titanium only has the basic manual aircon. I
was quite upset and disappointed about this as I'd "traded up" from an
earlier Ghia which had dual-zone climate control, and I'd understood that
the Titanium spec was at least as good as the Ghia's.

Yep, that's the way it works on mine too. I can only assume it's because
the standard trip-computer is a typical example of a Ford cost-engineered
component that delivers the minimum capability required to get a tick in
the spec box at the lowest possible unit cost.

I've trained myself to make sense of l/100km, since I just don't get
temperatures in degF. I threw together a spreadsheet that converts
between 1/100km and mpg - the core formula is

mpg = 282.48094/(l/100km)

They key thing is, the lower the number, the better you're doing.
Driving *very* carefully, I can get 4.9l/100km, which equates to 57.65mpg.
More usually, it's 6.2l/100km, or 45.5mpg.

Average speed still shows as mph, even with the computer set to METRIC.
I don't know whether you can easily change the odo to show KM - I'd have
thought not.

Age old saying:- Don't assume....... check!

Seriously, you should always check the spec of the car you are buying if
the toys are that important to you.

Mark,

Thanks for that. Looks like I'm stuck with it. OK on the spreadsheet and
getting used to interpreting the litres/km stuff into what is good and what
isn't. I'll probably just change it to IMPERIAL when I want to look at the
stats and then back to metric.

Paul/All,

After just changing our car its not just the toys its the engine as well!

About 3 weeks ago we traded in our 2.0 TDCI Zetec for a 2.0 Petrol Titanium
(via the Ford Direct scheme). Our previous 2 Focii had been diesels.

Within 15 minutes I knew I'd made a mistake. The petrol engine really
lacked the mid range oomph that the diesel had.

We drove it for a couple of days and just couldn't live with it. By this
time I'd located a similar mileage/age 2.0 TDCI Titanium on the Ford Direct
website and on the third day we went back
to Ford and asked to change it under the Ford Direct. 2 weeks later we had
the new car. I had to pay an extra £1800 due to the diesel premium and
optional extras but it was well worth it.

If only we'd driven a 2.0 petrol before then I would never have opted for a
2.0 petrol for us.
