Edelbrock carb question

Post subject: Edelbrock carb question

On most of the Edelbrock Performer Series carbs there are two vacuum ports
on the front of the carburetor. One is a full-time vacuum port and one is a
ported vacuum port. What is the purpose of the two ports? Which would be
used for the vacuum advance on the distributor.

Any info would be appreciated.

My guess is the ported one is for vacuum advance and the other is for
vacuum that you need for anything else.

The one on the passenger side is ported vacuum for your distributor.
It drawn from just under the primary throttle plate
The drivers side is straight manifold vacuum and is drawn from under
that carb

Another thing... use the front port for your PCV ( if necessary) Using
the rear port only loads up with engine vapors and condenses oil in the
hose until you use enough pedal to open the rear barrels. If not used
enough, it could dump enough oil into your rear cylinders to foul a plug
or two..

One more clarification that wasn't clearly addressed.
The ported vacuum was addressed as used for distributor vacuum advance.
The manifold vacuum is typically used for other emission controls (various).

The best advice I can give you on an Edelbrock carb:

1) Take off the air cleaner
2) Remove linkage and fuel line
3) Remove 4 nuts
4) Remove Carb from intake manifold
5) NOW THROW IT AWAY
6) Get a Holley or Demon Carb

Now there's a helpful response. Unfortunately I don't see the original
post on my server, so I don't know what actual question was asked. But
if you like fuel leaks and piss poor gas mileage, by all means follow
Roscoe's advice.

Did you ever notice at car shows that the cars with leaking carb gas stains
on the intakes are all Holleys? Mine did too.
After replacing my Holley with an Edlebrock, the car ran smoother and never
again left me on the side of the road.
