I'm really thing about getting a Kia Rio for this reason and , since a
good Geo Metro is getting next to impossible to find . The Chevy
replacement called the Aveo hasn't sparled my interest . |

I would consider a 07 Hyundai Accent, but a Kia Rio is a better
value. Aveo is the lowest priced car sold in America today.
Frankly, you can't go wrong with buying any 2007 car.
I have 114,000 miles on my 2K Accent.

I know this is a Hyundai website, and you asked about an econobox. And I
agree that the Kia Rio may be the best value going there.
But for little more money, you can get one of the leftover '07 Kia Spectras.
The Spectra is a much more comfortable and substantive car. And although it
costs a little more, it is still one of the best values out there. And at
the end of the season, you should be able to get one for about the cost of a
Rio. And you will be much happier with it.
Same for any leftover '07 Hyundai Elantras. But with the '08 Elantra
already having made a big and good introduction, I think they will be harder
to find.

Thanks for the input, Edmonds has a good website
where you can punch in and compare various models,
will have a look at the Kia Spectra.

I would recommend that you look for a clean used VW or Mercedes diesel.
They are both built like tanks, their engines will run forever if properly
maintained, and you have the option of running them on used fryer oil if
you are at all adventurous.

Yes, and this is really a shame. Diesels are a much better choice, what
with their durability, economy, and the possibility of running them on
used fryer oil. That, is the ultimate in economy!

Mid '70s Olds diesels were converted gas engines, not true diesels from
the start. That's why they failed so miserably. A better example might be
the five cylinder diesels that were put into 300 Series Benz's. Those were

Yeah, and when you had the expertise of the Detroit Diesel people just down
the hall, it didn't make sense that Oldsmobiles diesel was such an abysmal
failure - until you see what was already happening in the domestic auto
industry at that time.
