Post subject: EF FALCON OIL IN COOLING SYSTEM

Hi,

I just purchased an EF 4.0L with a warped cylinder head. I got the head repaired, flushed the oil and cooling systems, reassembled and it runs like a dream. I flushed the cooling system out several times and managed to clean all the oil from the header tank.

The problem is now that on a daily basis more oil is appearing in the header tank. The oil level is fine and doesn't seem to have moved at all, the cooling system doesn't appear to be pressurizing and doesn't blow out its coolant. The engine doesn't miss when started while hot or after sitting from being hot.

I thoroughly cleaned out the head bolt holes, reassembled fitting new head bolts. The head was bent back to the original shape and surfaced, the valves were reseated. The head was crack tested and had a very small crack. The crack was also repaired.

What are the chances that the block is cracked?

I would have thought that if the block was cracked and oil could be forced into the cooling system, then water from the cooling system would be forced back into the engine when compression wasn't present.

Thanks

Adam

On further inspection, flushing, etc it appears to be automatic transmission fluid. There also appears to be a really slight amount of water in the auto fluid. The oil in the cooling system smells just like auto fluid.

Another question, is the auto fluid system up to the radiator under more pressure than the cooling system to allow alot of auto fluid into the radiator but not alot of water back into the transmission?
