Hi Z,

Just went and tried disconnecting the battery. No good.....and, yes, I
checked I'd got the radio code first!

Actually, the failure notification won't go off at all now. Looks like a
visit to the garage!

I'm sure I've posted something about an ECU reset at some point -
something to do with disconnecting the -ve terminal of the battery and
holding it against the +ve terminal to ensure all residual current is
drained from the system.

Check on google, though.

This is how I reset mine to get the stereo recognised again - some of the
same voodoo might work.

Disconnect the battery negative lead and leave the positive attached to the
battery.

Disconnect the connector - the connector is behind the panel on the right
hand side of the passenger foot-well. The panel comes off by removing the
single x-head screw and then it pulls off.

Wait for ten seconds and re-connect the connector.

Touch the negative lead to the positive battery terminal for 5 seconds (I
know that sounds a bit scary but it doesn't seem to cause a problem) and
re-connect the negative lead to the battery.

That did it for me but I've also heard that the sequence sometimes works
differently - someone suggested:

Remove -ve battery lead, disconnect the connector in foot-well, touch -ve to
+ve terminal, reconnect -ve to battery *then* re-connect the connector.

Hope that helps.

I wonder if you could just earth the negative cable at this point, instead
of touching the +ve battery terminal with it?

Do you think it could be just a mixed up computer (ecu OR WHATEVER YOU
CALL EM).....the problem doesn't go away between stops now.
