Archived from groups: alt>ford>trucks (more info?)

I have a 2004 Ford Ranger Edge with a 3.0 liter V6.
I've noticed a station in my town is selling E85
for about 50 cents a gallon less than gasoline and
I would like to give it a try.
I was wondering if I could use E85 fuel safely in my Ranger.
Did Ford design these engines to be capable of using E85
and how could I tell, or what would I need to do to modify
my truck to use the E85 fuel?

It'll say 'flex fuel' right on the gas door if it's ok. Otherwise, you'd
better not.

steve

the info is probably available on ford's site also.

I think you ought be more clear. If you use E85 in a vehicle not
certified for Flex Fuel, you could rot the rubbery portions of the fuel
system , and the computer won't be able to adjust the mixture to account
for the different burning properties of E85, so the engine would run
poorly for the little time it runs before the lines spring a leak. E10
is safe to use, and in fact most gas is E10 these days I am almost sure.
even when it's not advertised.
