I've been pricing a new CRV EXL AWD, and can't get my local dealers to
offer more than a $600 or $700 discount. Sticker is $26,595.

Has anybody had better luck finding higher discounts? MrB

No, not in my experience. The CRV is just too popular to get much of a
discount. If you are in the Boston area, you might try Honda Barn
north of the city, they seemed willing to bargain a bit.

You might try something like the Costco auto discount program. A
couple years back it was a few hundred over invoice for a Civic. I
don't know if it works with popular models.

A local Honda dealer told me the Sam's Club program only promised $200
off ... but he could offer a whopping $595 discount on a $28,000 CRV.

That was about a week ago. I have since bought a Toyota, where the
discounted price was more acceptable. I got a bit irritated when the
Honda dealer kept bragging that he didn't need to offer any bigger
discount because of high demand. My business simply went elsewhere.
Honda seems to play this "tight supply" pricing game more than most
other dealers. Mr B

I experienced the same thing over the last few weeks. Located a participating Costco dealership and initially went to look at the CRV. We were told the same thing, that because it was so popular, the discount was minimal. Whereas the discount for the Pilot was significantly greater. So we looked at the Pilot, but my wife had her heart set on a CRV. I think the discount difference makes sense. If the CRV were not redesigned this year, the discount would probably be as good as it was on the Pilot. You know the dealerships are gonna jump on that band wagon for sure. How long can it last? Maybe a year or so until the new CRV starts popping up all over the place? I phoned around to find the model and color we wanted and ended up with a base price of 21000 for an LX AWD. That's almost 500 less than the TMV on Edmunds.com for the same CRV. And the dealership wasn't even a participating Costco dealership, but said no problem when I told him I was shopping a Costco discount. I was very satisfied. More importantly, my wife, who is the primary driver of the CRV was very happy.
