Hi all,

Is it cheaper for a 17 year old to insure a diesel (Say a 1.9TDi) as opposed
to a petrol 1.6 or 1.8? If so, why?

Thanks Smile

DK

sorry can't answer your question, mate...but I wouldn't bother asking on
this group....they don't appear to be very friendly...or helpful...no-one
bothered to reply to my question, even to say they don't know.....

some money....HTH

Thanks for the heads-up Pam, much appreciated. I regularly use confused,
but needed a second opinion on diesel insurance as my boss says I should get
a diesel as it would be cheaper to insure. I can't see how to be honest,
but I'll look into it.

Thanks,

DK

In norway the power (bhp) play a big part in how big the insurance is. A
diesel engine is not something you usually find in a sports car either, wich
would also make the insurance cheaper.

Hi DK

The savings you would make on your http://www.homeapproved.co.uk/calculating-motor-premiums.htm (Motor Premiums) for choosing a diesel engine over petrol would be negligable. As a young driver you need to be aware of some fo the main factors which can lower you premium considerably:

Choose Your Car Wisely (Ref. Car Insurance Groups).

Look after your Vehicle (keep your car on your driveway rather than in the street, and a much better one if it is locked away in a garage overnight).

Limit The Drivers

Select The Appropriate Cover (Third Party or Fully Comprehensive)

Pay The First Part Of The Claim

Protect Your No Claims Discount

Look For 'Free' Insurance (Available on new car purchases)

Look for Introductory Discounts

Add Security

Last but by no means least (see above!) - Shop Around!

Hope this is of some use.
