Post subject: Delco thieflock

I have 1996 Cavalier bought 2nd hand,never used or had code for thief lock
Changed battery and thief lock activated and now cannot start car
Any suggestions?

GM doesn't have anything on that car that would prevent it from starting
just because you swapped the battery.

Does it have an aftermarket alarm/anti-theft system?

Do you get a flashing "security" light when you attempt to start it?

Too late to help this person, but there is a way to prevent this from
happening. Same with radio codes. Battery shops plug a 12 volt source into
the lighter socket while swapping out the battery. Prevents codes from being
lost.
