I have got damaged JPEG's on a CD-ROM which I'm desperate to get back
well the I'm guessing the CD-ROM is damaged. I can see them prefect on
the thumbnail but when you open them they are all over the shop. I
tried about 25 different recovery programs and the only one that could
recover with out crashing was ISO buster 1.8 I've done the Martin Brown
test below and the jpegs files passed that. A 703kb file compressing to
698kb that's a pass to me. Any help welcome as the snaps mean the
world to me.

If they pass the basic ZIP test and are commercially valuable then it
may be possible to recover and repair some of the damaged ones. But it
is impossible to say without examining original files. Drop me a line
privately with a couple of sample images if nothing else works.

Regards,
Martin Brown

If you can, try to read the CD at a low speed, perhaps 4x, or whatever
the lower limit of your drive is. It sometimes helps when reading a
damaged disk. Maybe some of the recovery programs you tried already
did that, though.

Give the disc a good polishing with the "Skip Doctor" or any of the
similar products. Also, if you're trying to read them in a CD-ROM
drive, try reading them instead with a CD-RW burner or a DVD drive
that also reads CD's. In the past, I've found that burners tend to do
a better job with reading dodgy discs than straight CD-ROM drives. I
don't know if it's a difference in the laser pickup or the
error-correction software.

JPEG Compression Question - I shoot in high resolution JPEG mode with my camera. I download the files to my computer for archiving and editing. I save each picture as a TIF for editing. After I complete my editing, I save the edited TIF as a high quality JPEG. My question is this:....

ThumbsPlus: Any convenient way to display JPEG level? - I've been doing a faux SaveAs and then aborting it. Seems like there sb some way to make it show in the pic's stats though. My agenda is to put a bunch of otherwise-identical pix in there saved at three different JPEG levels and see what I can/can't..

2007 TL-S - I drove a 6-speed the other day. I found the torque steer was poorly controlled, the shift was sloppy and the brake pedal too soft, although the brakes were excellent. I am comparing to an RL and an NSX. Is this typical or did I have a poor example?...
