I was looking at a new Camry, and I was just wondering if I should buy
the 4, or the 6cyl? Is there a huge difference in gas milage between the
two? Is there a noticible power difference in the 6 cyl versus the 4
cyl? Thanks in advance, for any help on this.

The 4 Cyl is the best buy.
It's easier to work on.
Gets better mileage.
Not a Sludge Monster.
Has ample power.

If you have computer, you can find the specs for MPG and horsepower at the
Toyota website. Some other car websites (like those with the obnoxious
commercials) may give 0-60 times for each engine. If Consumer Reports has
reviewed the new Camry, you can get some information from them (available in
most libraries).

In 98% of the situations you will encounter the 4 cyl will be fine. I have
an older 88 Camry
4 cyl/auto 212K miles It will run 80+ all day long if you so desire

The Camry 6 kicks butt while the Camry 4 is fine....for your grandmother.

Depending on what's your objective. If you don't care much about
money, definitely everything comes with a V6 will give you a better
feel. However, there is a price to pay, gas is more expensive, gas
mileage is lower, replacement part is more expensive (e.g. H rated
tires), harder to work with yourself (replacing spark plug is a
difficult task).

The Camry does a lot of things very well, but "kicking butt" is not one
of them.
It is a sedan, not a sports car, no matter what engine Toyota put in there.

A '95 6-cyl and a '00 4-cyl are parked in my garage. Both are
reliable. The 6-cyl is by far more expensive to maintain and
operate. A simple oil change illustrates the difference:
The 6-cyl filter inevitable drools oil over itself, while the 4-cyl
not a drop. Then the 6-cyl requires 5 quarts of oil versus
3.6 for the 4-cyl. Similar story for spark plug changes.
Do yourself and the planet a favor. Buy the 4-cyl.

H.K.

Funny you should say that. I have an '89 an a '99, both 4-cyl and they
both 'drool' when I change the oil. However, I have never had a
problem with the get up and go of either vehicle. I owned a '96 Malibu
6 cyl and there was no noticable difference between it and the '99
4cyl. Go with the 4.

You do NOT have to replace the 6's tires with H rated tires..unless you
travel over 117 mph. Paying to have the plugs replaced would happen seldom
as the change interval is so long, so THAT argument doesn't work.

Nope. I have a 99 SIX. Next Camry I buy will be a 2014 SIX. No question.
That 99 SIX was the best car buying decision I have ever made. Yes, I tried
out the 4. The extra power was a minor part of the decision to buy the 6.
The six has larger wheels, a stronger suspension, better ride etc etc..

Well, compared to a MALIBU, the Camry 4 rocks.

I'm happy with my 2007 camry 4 cylinder. If you don't need to drive
in insane high speed traffic, then go with the 4. The only complaint
with the 4cyl CE I currently have is that the transmission downshifts
too soon when using cruise control going up a hill. Is this something
that can be adjusted?

Price is another factor to consider... you don't get a lot more bang
for the extra $ you're spending.
