Gonna start looking at the new CRV. What is the main difference
between the AWD and 4WD? Which is the best
for economy? We don't go off the road , but we need traction for Pa.
winters. Thank you for reading.

"Accord"ing to the Honda site

There is no AWD. It's either 2WD or 4WD.

The CRV's are either 2WD or AWD. We have a 2007 AWD CRV and live
in the Buffalo, NY area, where as you know we're familiar with the white
stuff. We average around 23 mpg in all around driving and I recently
averaged 27.5 mpg on a trip to Albany and back.

The 2WD model will get better mileage, but I highly recommend the AWD
model for peace of mind. BTW, it's a great little SUV!

No, they are either 2WD or 4WD, with the 4WD being Honda's "Real Time
4-Wheel Drive™", which isn't either "true AWD" or "true 4WD" at all, but
rather Honda PR bullshit for, "FWD until we think you need a little extra
help from the rear tires".

Hi,
Subaru is full time true AWD. CRV is FWD and power start going to rear
when wheels start slipping. My family has two Subaru and a CRV.
Subaru with a set of winter tire is VERY good in the snow/slush/ice.
CRV, I can feel when power starts going to the rear which is not instant.

You might want to test drive a Subaru Outback or Forester while
shopping. If your preferences were like mine (albeit I shopped in
2001), you'll become part of the Subaru cult. The Subaru's felt so
much more refined, and their performance in the snow (I'm in Chicago)
is so wonderful it makes dealing with snow a happier thing. Subaru is
true AWD and it's something they do in every one of their cars.

This is among the reasons you see so many of em running around
Colorado and the snow belt states.

The CRV is a nice vehicle too, but do give a Subaru a spin to see what
you think. I'm sure glad I did. The down side is that the high
quality AWD does make a dent in fuel economy. If in your matrix of
important stuff, fuel economy is more important than snow performance
and interior refinement, then the CR-V may be more to your liking.
