For my 05 corolla, I think the "old" numbers were more accurate
than the new way they calculate it.
Makes me curious if the new style corolla gets about the same
as the 03-08 series, or if it is a tad worse.
Even the 08's were set at about 37 mpg highway with the new
numbers I thought.
But in the real world my 05 with the auto tranny gets 41-42 at
65 mph. Maybe 39-40 at 70 mph. My tests at 65 mph are more
accurate than my 70 mph tests so far, due to the way I fuel up
on my trips, so the jury is out at 70 mph. It's still pretty close to
40 with the cruise on.
But anyway, mine gets a lot closer to the "41 highway" they used
as the old number, rather than the mid 30's they use now.
I probably get about 30 city, with a lot of stop and go, and A/C on.
But in some stretches on long boulevards, etc at low rpms, I probably
get much higher as long as I don't have to stop.
I think they made the new numbers more accurate for people who
keep their foot in it, frigid non stop A/C, etc...
