I am getting the check engine light during driving.
Comes on, then turns off.

Diagnostic Code 157 and 158 occur when I attach the little code
reader.

I cleared the memory, and now 157 again occurs.

Car seems die momentarly while accelerating. Friend said it felt like
a cylinder didnt fire.

Possible fixes please?

157 Mass Air Flow Sensor below minimum voltage
158 Mass Air Flow Sensor above maximum voltage

Clearing the code doesn't fix the problem.
I'm too tired to look for all the diagnostic routines right now.
I'm sure others will chime in momentarily. Smile

I went to a junk yard, purchased a used MAF Sensor (Mass Air Flow),
installed it, problem gone.

Paid 10$ plus tax for a used sensor. Sensor has 150k miles on it, but
the problem was solved. Came with a 45 day warranty too. Not bad at
all for 10$

Thanks for the help.

Out of curiosity, did you try cleaning the old one first?

Yes, it was actually clean with none of the black dust build up that
has been described by others.

However, I did clean with with electrical contact cleaner. It did not
help.

The one I got from the junk yard was actually dirty with black dust
build up. I did not clean that one until after I tested and made sure
it worked. It did work with the black dust on it. But I then cleaned
it out using electrical contact cleaner.

Its been 5 days and no problem thus far.
