Archived from groups: alt>autos>fiero (more info?)

Hi - I have an 87 Fiero GT (automatic) in which I was changing my
center console and in doing so needed to remove the cigarette lighter.
(It always worked - so that's not why I'm posting here).

Usually when I take something out and/or apart I sketch a diagram or
even take a pic of how it should be put back together.. but in this
case I didn't. Now I'm
having problems on exactly how to reassemble it. At first look, it
seems like a no- brainer - but I guess my brain has failed.

In an event - below is what I need to reassemble :
The actual lighter itself (The 1 3/4 inch silver cylinder which the
lighter plugs into) and attached one side is a small hollow cylinder
about an inch long and next to that is a small 1/2 silver gizmo
permanently at ached to the main lighter which is for connecting
something to it. At one end of this cylinder is the opening in which
the lighter plugs into and the other end has an opening which I don't
know what (if anything) goes into there

There were 3 connections which were attached to this lighter:
1) A single orange wire with a white plastic gizmo at the end which
connects
to something on the main lighter
2) A single black wire with a plastic end which I think (but certainly
not sure)
slips into that small 1/2 gizmo attached to the side of the
cylinder
3) 2 black wires connected to a small bulb at the end. I'm fairly
certain - this pushes into that small 1 3/4 hollow cylinder attached
to the side of the main cylinder
4) Finally a small metal connector came off one of the above ( I think
it may have been attached to that small 1 3/4 hollow cylinder which is
attached to the main cylinder - and then I seem to recall that orange
wire (See #1 above)
with the plastic connector at the end - slipped into that small metal
connector.

I tried several combinations - but no luck. The fuse is fine as
everything else it controls works.

Can anyone explain what goes where or point me to where I can see a
diagram showing each connection and where it goes.

Thanks so much in advance...

Sincerely

NC

I changed mine quite a while ago and don't remember the sequence of
reassembly. the light is to illuminate the cigarette lighter. the black wire
is the ground I am fairly sure.
