My 2000 Chevy Malibu switches from re-circulate air to outside air, amd the A/C lights dimms and goes off sometimes, any recommendations for repairs?

My CD player must have been hungry because it will not let me have the CD back. Is this going to been one of those problems that never fix themselves? Is this a problem on a lot of these cars?
