You are free to believe whatever you chose, but you are fool if you think
that every new car of every brand is the same and even more of a fool if you
believe they are the same after being used for thousands of miles, by
thousands of differant buyers, in innumerable differant circustances, go
back in you hole dummy

First, you should not be calling other people "dummy." Pot meet kettle.
Second, different models, will last different lengths of time. For
example, if you buy a used Toyota model with the known sludging problem,
you will have a lower chance of having a car that will go the long
distance without a major repair.
In the field of medicine, it's impossible to predict how long one will
live. However, on average, one who eats well, exercises, doesn't smoke,
keeps his/her weight down, will live longer than someone who is fat,
eats like a pig, doesn't exercise and smokes like a chimney. On average.
If there are two cars, model a and model b, and you know that model a
lasts longer than model b, on average, then the particular car that is a
model a will probably last longer than the particular car that is a model b.
The key words are "on average" and "probably."
If you buy a 1987 Yugo and a 1987 Corolla, chances are that the Corolla
will be running long after the Yugo.
You're totally correct that you can't say for sure. But, that doesn't
mean that knowing the durability of particular model doesn't add useful
information, either.

Why is he an idiot?
Face it: some cars just wear better than others. And usually (but not
always) they are Japanese.
Corollas are certainly known for their longevity. I had a choice in 1980
of a first year Corolla or a first year Celebrity. Do I really need to
tell you which car ran the longest? >> Stay informed about: Best Used Cars vs. Worst Used Cars |

I came late to the party and bought a 2WD 2003 S-10 new in 2002, when GM was
doing anything they could to sell a vehicle. When I test drove it, they had
to jump start it...that's how long it had been sitting. It will be paid off
at the end of this month, and I still have it.
I've been extremely pleased with it. It's quiet, gets good fuel economy, and
I love the interior. It has pulled a trailer all over creation, including
one run with a John Deere 420 tractor. 50,000 miles are coming closer every
day--I'm within 400 miles of being there now.
Have there been problems? Of course. One heated mirror stopped heating up.
The driver's side window motor quit working (with the window up, thank
heavens). Toward the beginning it had an electrical problem that resulted in
stalling at random. The third door handle broke (known problem). And the
driver's side seat has started to show some wear from my constantly getting
in and out of the truck. These were all repaired under warranty. It gets
right down the road with a ton of power and it does so comfortably. I
wouldn't trade it for anything--especially not one of those goofy Colorado
or Canyon things.

I've got both. An S-10 and a Colorado. If they still made it I would have
2 more s-10s.

Sounds like my last Lexus, a 97, that I sold to my brother-in-law except he
paid a lot more for the parts and labor

I had an '84 S-10 back when I used to drive 135 miles back and forth
to work. It had 357,000 miles on it when I wrecked it so bad I
decided not to fix, but to replace. I sold it to a bud for his
daughter. He fixed the body and she's still driving it to high
school.
I've got a '95 Jeep Wrangler now and my wife's got a '94 Wrangler.
Both have over 240,000 and the worst repair either of them have ever
had was rear axle seals in the '94, and I had to replace the 75 cent
clip that holds 5th gear in place on the mainshaft in the '95.
