Post subject: Car will not start unless in on position for a few minutes

I have a 2001 alero that has been giving me starting problems for the last month. When I turn the key the car will not turn over and start unless I leave key in on position for a little while. Also, when it does turn over sometimes it stalls or stalls immediately after i switch gears. The starter, sparks, and battery are fine. Any ideas?

Car will not start when hot - I have an old Chev with a 350 motor. If I drive the car on hot days or get tied up in traffic and then turn off the car it will not start for about 20 minutes. Any ideas why? What can I do? Thanks for your response
